World Patient Safety Day
The World Patient Safety Day (WPSD) is observed on 17 September all over the world. The 72nd World Health Assembly (WHA) in May, 2019, adopted a resolution WHA72.6 ‘Global Action on Patient Safety’ which also endorsed the establishment of World Patient Safety Day (WPSD) on 17 September. The objectives of WPSD are to increase public awareness and engagement, enhance global understanding, and work towards global solidarity and action by Member States and all stakeholders to improve patient safety. WPSD envisions to galvanize global action for safer systems, services, procedures and practices in health care to eliminate avoidable harm to patients, and manage and mitigate any risk of harm to patients. The WPSD campaign aimes to mobilize patients, health workers, policymakers, academics, researchers, professional networks and the health-care industry to speak up for patient safety.
